Living in Chicago

Don’t miss out on adventure.

It’s true- millions of people visit our city for our world-class museums, entertainment, and shopping. We love Chicago’s hot spots. If you’ve never gotten to taste the big city life, don’t miss this chance. We promise: Chicago has something you’ll love.

Imagine enjoying a Chicago-style hot dog while cheering on the Bulls, Bears, Cubs, or White Sox. Sports fans need not even break a sweat; U.S. Cellular Field is an easy walk from campus. High culture and intellectual conversation are waiting at the Art Institute, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Museum of Science and Industry. You can relax in Millennium Park. Then, belly laugh with friends at the Second City. The next ICO study break could be on 31st St. Beach, or at the top of a skyscraper!

…but Chicago isn’t all about spectacle. With over 77 distinct neighborhoods across more than 2,100 square miles, it’s also a great place to live. Forget the tourist brochures. Our city’s residents can show you restaurants, concert venues, festivals, and galleries that only true Chicagoans know. Living here for four years is an opportunity like no other.

The Illinois College of Optometry is located in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood. Jazz legend Louis Armstrong, bluesmen Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters, playwright Lorraine Hansberry, and civil rights leader Ida B. Wells are among the famous folks who have lived or worked in the area.

No car? No problem! The Chicago Transportation Authority operates trains and buses, which are easy, affordable, convenient modes of transport. The basic cash fare for riders is $2.50. You can access the CTA with a Ventra Card.
