Barbara Jean Schear celebrated her 100th birthday on July 16, 2022 with many friends and family.

Charles Brownlow was inducted into the American Optometric Association Foundation’s National Optometry Hall of Fame in June 2022.
1978
Emeritus Professor, Dominick M. Maino was the featured artist at the Triple R Gallery’s June and July First Fridays art exhibitions in Chicago. Many of his images were prominently displayed during this showing. At the July event, one of Dominick’s works caught the attention of an art collector and after an in-depth discussion of this work, the art collector decided to purchase the image. This photograph is printed on canvas and is of Christ on the Cross. Dominick has had an interest in photography for decades and frequently was a photographer for many of ICO’s events.
He was also recently interviewed for a story on National Public Radio concerning the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Renew My Church program. This program has resulted in the closing of or the combining of many churches into new parishes. Dominick commented on how being a member of the parish’s Music Ministry has helped to heal and bring together the various church congregations. (100% of all profits from the sale of his art work has been donated to the Our Lady of the Rosary Music Ministry in Chicago).

Sandra Block was honored at the American Academy of Optometry meeting in San Diego, CA as this year’s recipient of the Henry B. Peters Award.

Millicent Knight, of Dallas, Texas was honored with the Living Legend Award at the NOA meeting in July, and the NOA renamed its NOA Trailblazer Award to honor Dr. Knight.

Nicholas Colatrella, was elected to the American Academy of Optometry Board of Directors in October 2022. Dr. Colatrella received his doctorate degree from the Illinois College of Optometry and performed a hospital-based residency in ocular disease through the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Optometry and the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry, and a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry. He was also the first optometrist in the country to attain Diplomate status in Anterior Segment diseases from the American Academy of Optometry.

Fran Mangahas and Luke Schmidt got married on June 11th, 2022 and celebrated with many of their classmates from the Class of 2020 (Jordan Langel, Ryan Eisel, Kyle Young, Eric Veverka, Alex Beachnau, Tracy Tran, Justin Ng, Pedram Pourhosseini, Mike Bannon, Stephanie Engebretson, Nicole Avgoulas, and Noel Arackal). It was a great mini ICO reunion after not having physical graduation in 2020. Optometrists sure know how to party!
